I read this news about a month ago on a Chinese Newspaper. Well there is this public 4 year university called University of California, Irvine here in the Golden State California, and it actually opened the first Public Law School in the State of California and ran a free-tuition campaign for its inaugural class. With State of California in deep reds ( Where our economy was in the toilet, and now it’s way down in the sewer…) UC Irvine’s offering free Tuition for the first class of law students at its brand-new Public Law School. You might have heard of free-rides from Harvard or Yale’s Law School, but a debt-stricken public school system? Now in California? Totally Free of Tuition? That’s something unheard from eons of public school’s existence.

On the other hand the “free lunch” was just for 4% of among thousands of highly qualified applicants around the nation. And because the offer was so good, some undergrads even thought it was a hoax. And the tuition cost for the first class of 62 law students is estimated to be around $6 million or well over $100,000 per each students per year. I hope that “concept” continues and UCSD would follow UCI, I think I would love that deal as many of you would.

Some say the UCI Law School would soon surpass many of its current competitors and go into top 20, or in someday head to head with big shots on the East Coast — The Ivy League. I am highly optimistic of UCI Law School’s success in the future and I hope it can breed a new and energetic lawyers and influential public figures in the future.
